We still have not made any firm decisions on our future direction. A significant change has occurred in terms of our location. The change, we fear, will have profound implications for sales of pups. We have moved six miles. The old Pettigrew Road site was only a quarter mile off a major thoroughfare connecting a North-South(I-75) and an East-West(I-20) interstate. A kennel sign on that thoroughfare accounted for approximately 99% of our sales from 1975 to 1997. Our new location is far off the beaten path. From the forementioned thoroughfare one would have to make seven turns over approximately five miles to reach us. We are located on a very lightly traveled secondary road. In this setting a sign on the main thoroughfare would be wasted time and money and probably would sell no puppies. This is an ideal place to raise pups. Our house and kennels are a half mile off the secondary road on our own dirt road (trail might be a better descriptor). Ideal though it may be for raising pups, it is zero in terms of a sales location.
 

It seems obvious that we can't continue to breed other than for replacement purposes. It would not be a good idea to wait until our bitches need replacements to breed them. Its is accepted that bitches should be bred before they get too much age on them.
 

Faraway Kennels is pleased to introduce its brood bitch "lease" program. Lease is put in quotations because it is not a conventional lease program in which one would pay a fee for the female, take her home, breed her and raise pups, and then return her. The bitch does not leave here in the Faraway program. Here are the features of this program.

• You furnish the stud, we furnish the dam.
• The stud may be your dog or one advertised nationally.
• In the case of your personal dog, you bring or ship the dog here; it will be bred to the bitch of your choice, and you take your stud dog home. In the case of a nationally recognized dog we will take the dog to him (the stud fee is your responsibility). In the case of the latter the dog must be located in the Southeast and not too far away.
• You pick up the pups when they are three months old. At that time they will have been fed puppy chow all of their life and will have had been vacinated for DHL/parvo-corona. They will have been on ivermectrin (heartworm preventative) since 3 weeks of age.  My brood bitch will have been fed the same from one month of pregnancy through weaning.
• If your stud meets the criteria listed on a our homepage all of the pups will be guaranteed. As an example if you get 7 pups and all seven get the chance to trial and one of them doesn't make it, you will be refunded 14% of your lease fee.
• There is not set lease fee. It will be set individually. The most economical would be if you brought your dog here and got a small litter. The most expensive would be shipping your stud here or me having to carry the bitch to the stud dog and getting a large litter. Basically you will foot all the expenses; our goal is to profit $100 per litter. The trip to the stud will be included as an expense. Example of the latter would be $100 per trip to Leesburg (location of the Gates and Moreland kennels). The trip to the Rayl kennel would be approximately the same.
• There is no refund once the bitch is bred if you happen to change your mind.
